It's begun.
7.30am in the triple j studios. Way too early to open eyes, let alone talk about Beijing Blur. Fortuneately we had a Chinese pop song to play, which always makes me perky.
While it sold 200,000 copies in its first 40 days on the shelves, this song in fact plagiarised a hand-clapping 2003 track made popular by Japanese duo Puffy AmiYumi. And it was one of my favourite ways to pass the time on the Beijing subway.
The show this morning was Robbie, Marieke and The Doctor, home turf for this lil producer, and as the caffeine began flowing I began talking. Mainly about what it was like knowing nothing about China when I first arrived, how hard it was to speak the language and find friends. Marieke suggested the latter was because I kept humming this damn song.
We also talked about the front cover of the book, which has created small kerfuffle in discussions with a publisher in the states. What to do about level two?
More to come from my week of 'death by tardis' (the small ABC studio that connects me to the rest of the ABC's around the country).
